As a racehorse he was incredibly talented and versatile, an Inglis Millenium and Group 1 winning juvenile who ran second in a cox plate as a 3yo followed by a guineas triumph in the autumn.

We like this Castelvecchio colt for his versatility and the balance he offers between precosity and genuine staying potential.
Castelvecchio has made a terrific start at stud, with his first crop already producing Group 1 winners Aeliana, winner of the Ranvet Stakes, Tancred Stakes and Australian Derby by five lengths, and El Castello, winner of the Spring Champion Stakes. He has also sired Group 2 winner Verona Rose and Group 3 winner Shangri La Spring, an outstanding early return for a young stallion.
As a racehorse, Castelvecchio was incredibly versatile himself. He won the Inglis Millennium and a Group 1 juvenile race before going on to finish second in the Cox Plate and win a Guineas. That ability to perform from two through to a mile and beyond is something we see reflected in this colt.
He is a strong, athletic colt who looks like he will appreciate getting over a bit of ground as he matures, while having enough maturity and natural precocity to give himself every opportunity to have some early success.
His dam, Kiarra Rose, was a very good Testa Rossa mare, winning five races from 1600m to 2200m, so there is plenty of substance and proven middle-distance ability throughout the pedigree.
For us, this colt offers an exciting combination of precocity, versatility and the potential to develop into a quality horse over a longer distance.
Training & Development
Castelvecchio is well and truly delivering with his first crop, already responsible for six stakes winners, including two outstanding Group 1 winners in El Castello, winner of the Spring Champion Stakes G1 and Gloaming Stakes G3, and Aeliana, a spectacular winner of the 2025 Australian Derby G1, 2026 Ranvet Stakes G1 and Tancred Stakes G1.
Group winners Verona Rose, Double Market and Shangri La Spring, along with Listed winner Comanche Miss, further underline the emergence of Castelvecchio as one of Australia’s most exciting young sires.
He ended the 2024/25 season fifth on Australia’s 3YO Sires’ list and inside the top 15 on the General Sires’ Premiership by stakes wins, with nine stakes wins — achieved with significantly fewer runners than every other stallion in the top 20.
The colt’s dam, Kiarra Rose, is by Testa Rossa, one of Australia’s leading broodmare sires. His broodmare sire credits include Group 1 winners Vow And Declare, Cool Aza Beel, Global Glamour and Prince Fawaz, as well as Group winners Coeur Volante and Elliptical.
This colt boasts an excellent middle-distance and staying pedigree, with further depth throughout the family including Champion Stayer Jezabeel. Combined with Castelvecchio’s proven ability to produce precocious, high-class performers, this is a pedigree that offers plenty of scope for the colt to develop into a quality racehorse over a range of distances.
